Seasonal Home Edit: Autumn 2025

A NOTE FROM Heidi

I always welcome the shift into autumn. After the whirlwind of summer—school holidays, packed schedules, long, hot days—this season brings a natural transition. Kids are back at school, routines are reshuffled, the days are shorter, and it’s a chance to reset and settle into a new rhythm.

A new season is an opportunity to bring that same sense of renewal into our homes. Just like we instinctively transition our wardrobes—swapping linen for knits and reaching for an extra layer as it gets crisper—our homes can benefit from the same subtle shifts.

This Seasonal Home Edit is here to inspire simple, thoughtful updates for the season—small, actionable shifts to refresh your space and help you enjoy your home more. Think of it as a bit of an audit—a chance to clear out what’s no longer working, make the most of what you already have, or introduce a few thoughtful additions that help your home feel good now and into the months ahead.

Because a few small changes now can make your home feel lighter, more considered, and easier to live in—through this season and beyond.

Style Notes

This season is all about finding beauty in simplicity. Embracing thoughtful, subtle changes—a styled corner, a candle, a throw—anything that creates a sense of home.

Lighting

Layered Ambiance: As the days grow shorter, lighting becomes a key element in setting the mood. Swap out harsh overhead lights for softer table and floor lamps with linen shades, or dim sconces for a gentle glow. Clusters of candles in varying heights add warmth and will transform any space.

Decor and Styling

Curated Accents: Introduce organic materials like wood, terracotta, and hand-thrown ceramics. Pair them with sculptural vases or earthy-toned abstract art for a sense of subtle sophistication.

Seasonal Centerpieces: Refresh your dining table with native branches or flowers styled in a timeless vessel. This season offers a stunning palette of florals to incorporate into your home. Some of my favourites to style in autumn are Japanese anemones, hellebores, olive branch, magnolia leaves deep red dahlias and queen anne’s lace. Pair them with foraged foliage to create arrangements that feel effortless.

Textures and Colours

Embrace Earthy Tones: Draw inspiration from Australia’s autumnal landscape—deep ochres, muted greens, rich burgundy, and soft neutrals. These hues add depth and warmth without overwhelming your space.

Add Tactile Textures: Think chunky knit throws, brushed linens, raw ceramics, and textured stone. These elements invite touch and bring a cosy, lived-in feel. A simple clay vase with eucalyptus or foraged branches is an effortless nod to the season.

Layered textures

Textiles with Purpose: Swap out lightweight summer throws for heavier, textured ones. Replace airy cushions with linen-cotton blends in warm, earthy hues. Introduce a natural-fibre rug in wool, jute, or sisal to bring in warmth underfoot and create a grounded, cocooning feel—especially as we spend more time indoors. These small updates can transform a room and add instant comfort.

Sensory Touches: Incorporate candles in warm, earthy scents like amber or cedarwood to layer your home with a sensory element that feels grounding and seasonal.

Entertaining at Home

A time to dine: I often find autumn is the perfect season to gather in Australia as it hits the sweet spot—warm enough for open-air drinks, cool enough for cosy candlelit dinners. Set the tone by layering your table settings with textured napkins, rustic serveware, and vintage-inspired stoneware to create a warm, inviting ambiance. Whether it’s an intimate dinner party or a casual evening with friends, take the time to create a table that feels warm and welcoming.

The Mood

This mood board reflects my vision of autumn: candles, linen-shaded lamps, chunky knits, brushed linens, raw ceramics, earthy stone textures, and the rich, grounding colours of the season. These are some of the pieces I’ve been drawn to lately, both for my own home and the homes of my clients.

Use this as a starting point to inspire your own autumn styling—a simple yet impactful way to weave warmth, texture, and personality into your home. Think of it as a blueprint to help you imagine the possibilities for your space.

To bring these concepts to life in a way that reflects you, consider how layered textures, curated lighting, and organic materials can work together in your space.
