Founded in 1881, Oakville Grocery is the oldest continually operating grocery store in California – and boy does it buzz! Conveniently located on St. Helena Highway, I stopped in for lunch here on my way to the wine country.
It’s a destination for both locals and visitors alike and offers a highly curated selection of the best products from farmers, artisans and purveyors in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys.
The food here is sourced from neighboring farmers and is all seasonal – including made-to-order sandwiches and salads, breads, cheeses, charcuterie, and baked goods. You can easily spend an hour in here just wandering around and looking at all the deliciously packaged foods or the great selection of wines. If you fancy a picnic, you can take lunch with you on the road, or they have a fabulous patio area which backs onto a vineyard.
My recommendation: Grab a bottle of wine and a selection of sandwiches and salads, take them out the back to the patio, and bask in the glorious wine region sun!
